Join an HPDC Technical Sub-Group (TSG)
Help shape the future of transparency in building products
The Health Product Declaration Collaborative (HPDC) is inviting qualified experts to join its Technical Sub-Groups (TSGs), where members contribute directly to the development and refinement of the HPD Open Standard. These groups play a critical role in advancing transparency, improving material health practices, and expanding sustainability considerations across the building product industry. By joining a TSG, you’ll collaborate with a diverse network of professionals and help shape the technical foundation that supports healthier, more sustainable materials.
HPDC currently has two separate Technical Sub-Groups, each with a distinct focus area. Applicants will join one group based on their expertise and interests.
Material Health Technical Sub-Group: focuses specifically on material health evaluation and chemical transparency within the HPD Open Standard. This includes advancing hazard screening methodologies such as GreenScreen and Pharos, refining ingredient disclosure requirements and threshold levels, and developing Special Conditions for complex or emerging material categories. Members bring technical expertise in areas like chemistry, toxicology, and material science to ensure that HPD guidance reflects the latest scientific knowledge and industry best practices.
Social Equity and Circularity Technical Sub-Group: focuses on expanding HPDC’s work beyond material health to include social responsibility and circular economy principles. This group addresses topics such as supply chain transparency, labor practices, and social equity, along with circularity considerations like recycled content, material reuse, and end-of-life scenarios. Members help develop disclosure protocols, verification guidance, and frameworks that align with evolving sustainability standards, contributing expertise in areas like life cycle assessment, environmental justice, and supply chain management.
As a member of a Technical Sub-Group, you will actively participate in discussions, review materials, and contribute to the development of technical recommendations, guidance documents, and Special Conditions. TSG members also help address questions from HPDC members and provide input on updates to the HPD Open Standard. All work produced by each group is submitted to the HPDC Technical Committee for review and approval.
Membership is open to representatives from HPDC member organizations who bring relevant expertise and a collaborative mindset. HPDC strives to maintain balanced representation across manufacturers, building industry professionals, public interest groups, and third-party verifiers, ensuring that diverse perspectives inform each group’s work.
TSGs typically meet monthly via virtual meetings, with additional sessions scheduled as needed based on project priorities. Members are expected to engage consistently, come prepared to contribute, and support ongoing collaboration. Each group is led by co-chairs selected from within the membership, who help guide discussions and serve as liaisons to the Technical Committee.
Participating in an HPDC Technical Sub-Group is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in advancing industry standards, collaborate with leading experts, and stay at the forefront of material health, transparency, and sustainability in the built environment.
Architects, designers, and specifiers are strongly encouraged to apply. The TSGs benefit directly from the practical perspective of those who select and specify products in real projects, alongside expertise in chemistry, toxicology, material science, sustainability, circular economy, and supply chain transparency.
The 2026–2028 Call for Technical Sub-Group Applicants has closed.
We’ll announce the next call on this page and in the HPDC newsletter.
