Health Product Declaration® (HPD) Collaborative APPOINTS 2016 TECHNICAL COMMITTEE
RESPONSIBLE FOR GUIDING EVOLUTION OF THE HPD OPEN STANDARD
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – December 3, 2015. The Health Product Declaration Collaborative (HPDC) today announced the membership of its 2016 Technical Committee, charged to guide the evolution of the HPD Open Standard. The HPDC Board of Directors selected the Technical Committee members at its November meeting, based on a slate presented by its Nominating Committee following an open call for applicants.
Earlier this year, the HPDC Board of Directors ratified a restructuring of its Technical Committee recognizing the growing adoption of the HPD Open Standard. The restructuring included expanding its size to 17 members and adding Manufacturer category member representatives to serve along with User and Ecosystem category members.
All Technical Committee members are representatives of HPDC member organizations. Technical Committee membership is now for staggered, two-year terms; nine of the 2016 members were randomly selected to serve an initial one-year term. Each member may be appointed to serve up to three consecutive full terms.

“We are delighted with the strong response we received to our call for applicants, which has enabled us to select a top-notch committee representing the full spectrum of the HPDC Membership,” commented Amanda Kaminsky, HPDC Board Chair. “With the number of published HPDs now in the thousands, and growing manufacturer and user adoption, we need to be prepared to respond quickly to new learning and enable the HPD Open Standard to support the rapid evolution of practice that is emerging with increased use. Together with the HPDC Staff, Membership Advisory Panels and Communities of Interest, the 2016 Technical Committee positions our organization to support this next phase of growth.”
Technical Sub Groups (TSGs) are also being formed to support the work of the Technical Committee, and will begin work in 2016. Representatives of HPDC member organizations are eligible to apply for membership on these TSGs. A call for applicants will be issued later this month via the HPDC Member Portal and also the HPDC public website, in the following areas: Content Inventory, Special Conditions, and Supply Chain. Additional Sub Groups are being planned for Harmonization and 3rd Party Verification. Each TSG will be composed of 5-10 participants representing a cross-section of user, manufacturer and ecosystem members. Further information about the Technical Sub Groups can be found on the HPDC website at: https://www.hpd-collaborative.org/technical-committee/ .
The Technical Committee and the TSGs will be establishing a fixed calendar of meetings for 2016, to support the newly adopted quarterly addendum and periodic dot-release process for the HPD Open Standard; the next major release is anticipated in 2-3 years. Inputs for consideration in the quarterly addendum and dot-releases will be provided via the HPDC public website. The process for these inputs will be announced in January 2016. Proposed updates to the HPD Open Standard via the addendum and dot-release process will undergo a review and comment period open to HPDC Members. This will be followed by approval by the Technical Committee, and final ratification by the HPDC Board of Directors. Further information about Technical Committee proceedings can be found at the HPDC website at https://www.hpd-collaborative.org/technical-committee/ .
