Health Product Declaration® (HPD) Collaborative Releases HPD Builder 2.0
Cloud-based information management tool for creating Health Product Declarations
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – January 12, 2016. The Health Product Declaration Collaborative (HPD Collaborative) today announced the public release of HPD Builder 2.0, a cloud-based information management tool that manufacturers can use to manage the reporting of building product contents and associated health information, using the Health Product Declaration (HPD) Open Standard.
The HPD Open Standard is the leading method in the building products industry for customers and manufacturers to exchange information about building product contents and associated health information. First proposed in 2012 by a group of leading architects and designers, the HPD Open Standard allows for the accurate, reliable and consistent reporting of this information through a detailed format and instruction set. In September 2015 Version 2.0 of the Standard was approved for release by the HPDC Board of Directors. HPD Builder 2.0 provides a fully revised and updated automated tool for manufacturers to use in creating these reports, consistent with Version 2.0 of the Standard.
“HPD Builder 2.0 makes the complex task of creating a product inventory with associated health information much easier to manage for manufacturers,” said Aaron Smith, Director of Sustainable Building Solutions for ASSA ABLOY (a manufacturer of door security solutions) and HPD Collaborative Board Member. “In our work with the HPD Open Standard over the past several years at ASSA ABLOY, we’ve seen the benefits of sharpening our focus on reporting and more fully understanding this important product information. The HPD Builder 2.0 will help us further streamline and simplify working within our supply chain and with our customers to make this information more accessible and useable than ever before.”
HPD Builder 2.0 is made available by the HPD Collaborative, a non-profit, member organization dedicated to the support and evolution of the HPD Open Standard. “We are extremely pleased to be able to offer the HPD Builder 2.0 to our members and others who are engaged in creating and using Health Product Declarations,” said Wendy Vittori, HPD Collaborative Executive Director. “With the growing adoption of the HPD Open Standard as the format for reporting product content and associated health information, HPD Builder 2.0 is an essential next step in dramatically increasing the number of products for which an HPD is available. Providing this management tool to assist manufacturers in creating and publishing HPDs has been a top priority for our organization following the release of HPD 2.0 in September.”
HPD Builder 2.0, in addition to implementing the changes to the HPD Open Standard approved in Version 2.0, introduces a new, intuitive user interface, enhanced error-checking, as well as a wider range of options for publishing HPDs. Work is underway to implement the HPD Open Library and HPD Open API, both of which are planned for release in 2016.
As part of HPD Collaborative membership, product companies receive unlimited use of HPD Builder 2.0. Membership is open to organizations that are actively engaged in the creation, use and/or support of the HPD Open Standard. Others may obtain use of HPD Builder 2.0 for a small, per-use fee. A series of instructional webcasts in the use of HPD Builder 2.0 is available to the public on the HPD Collaborative website.
