“The HPDC Board is so appreciative of the tremendous quality and number of applicants for our Technical Committee this year,” remarked Amanda Kaminsky, HPDC Board Chair.  “It is clear from this level of interest that the changes we have been making in HPDC operations in the past several years have encouraged a greater and deeper level of engagement within our member community than ever before.”  HPDC now has over 150 member organizations, representing over 350 individual participating professionals from the building industry.

During 2016, HPDC established a 17-member Technical Committee and five standing Technical SubGroups, now directly involving over 50 HPDC members.  The five Technical SubGroups are: Content Inventory, Special Conditions, Supply Chain, Third Party Verification, and Harmonization.  Each of the Technical SubGroups also will issue Calls for Applicants and appoint new members on an annual basis.

“Our express goal in 2016 was to establish a broader and more inclusive process for driving the growth of the HPD Open Standard, by involving a larger and more diverse member group in the Standard development process,” said Mike Manzi, who was reappointed by the Board as Technical Committee Chair for a second year. “Having so many more people involved than we did when we started out is more complicated to coordinate, for sure, but what this expanded process gives us in terms of diverse perspectives and depth of expertise is well worth it.”

The use of the HPD Open Standard for reporting of building product content and associated health information is also growing rapidly within the building industry. The recently introduced HPD Public Repository already has over 2,200 HPDs published for search and download—at no cost to users.
