HPD Manufacturer User Guide – Now Available for Review through October 13

Do you need help creating Health Product Declarations® (HPDs) for your products? Are you developing HPDs for use in green building certification through LEED or WELL, or other tools such as Portico? Are you interested in getting more involved in material health and healthier products? If so, read more about how the HPD Manufacturer User Guide can help you.

The HPD Manufacturer User Guide provides manufacturers with practical “how to” information for creating HPDs. The Guide offers background information for the HPD Open Standard to help you better understand the format, what an HPD report contains, and how you can successfully complete the process of gathering and reporting information.

You can download the Guide on the HPDC website at no charge and your feedback is welcome and appreciated. We invite suggestions for corrections, clarifications, additional information needed and other material that will make this document more useful. Please submit your feedback through the HPDC Support Portal by October 13th to help us improve the final version, which will be published later in October. This system enables HPDC to track comments and ensures that they receive attention.

Project Teams – Over 3,100 HPDs Are Waiting for You in the HPD Public Repository

Are you working on a project and wondering what products have HPDs? It’s never been easier to find out. Visit the HPD Public Repository, where over 3,100 completed HPDs are now published and available for download. Of these, over 400 are in the new HPD Open Standard v2.1 format (see below for more on v2.1). Search by CSI code, manufacturer, product, HPD version and LEED Pre-check Indicator (version 2.1) to quickly find the HPDs you need for your project requirements, LEED credits and more.

HPD Open Standard v2.1 – New Features Make Creating and Using HPDs Easier for All

The latest improvements to the HPD Open Standard offer great features for project teams and manufacturers. Foremost among these is the LEED Pre-Check Indicator. This new feature provides a mechanical pre-check of an HPD to determine whether the levels of reporting and required data elements are present in an HPD, consistent with the LEED v4 Material Ingredients credit, for both Option 1 and Option 2.

For manufacturers preparing HPDs using the HPD Builder, this pre-check is offered as an optional feature, enabling you to determine before you publish an HPD that it meets these basic LEED requirements. Additional review of HPDs that pass the pre-check are needed for certain data elements, but this feature will save both project teams and manufacturers considerable time on checking routine items. For more on the key features of the HPD Open Standard v2.1, visit the HPDC website.

Living Product Expo – HPD-Declare Data Exchange Initiative Announced!

Kudos to HPDC member International Living Future Institute for their third year of the Living Product Expo in Pittsburgh. This conference is a fabulous focal point for those interested in Transparency and Material Health to celebrate and learn about the rapid advances being made. HPDC member organizations were very well-represented, with 13 members among the exhibitors and over 40 individual participants involved in the workshops and sessions held over the 3-day event. You can see some of the photos from the event here.

Of particular note was the announcement by ILFI’s James Connelly and HPDC Executive Director Wendy Vittori of the intent to electronically exchange data between the HPD Builder and Declare system. This capability, which is planned for availability within the next months, will enable the use of data in HPDs to be electronically provided in support of Declare label preparation and Living Product Challenge certification.

Greenbuild 2017 – Just Around the Corner

HPDC will be exhibiting again this year at Greenbuild. This is an opportunity to meet with HPDC Staff, who will be available in Booth #2042 to provide any assistance we can for creating and using HPDs. Be sure to take advantage of a limited number of free exhibit hall passes we have available – first-come, first-serve. We look forward to seeing you at Greenbuild this November!
