Transparency Now is catching on! In July, both architects/designers and manufacturers recorded new highs for HPD creation, publishing and downloads in the HPD Public Repository. Thank you to everyone for practicing transparency now – over 4,100 published HPDs, thousands more in creation, many new HPDs published every month, and an average of over 1,000 HPD monthly downloads in 2018!

Transparency Now – Practice Step 3 – Adding Transparency to Your Product Documentation is now easier than ever – Introducing Advanced User Features

Based on your feedback, HPDC is introducing today a set of Advanced User Features for the HPD Public Repository. Advanced User Features have been specifically designed to assist project teams in using the Repository to incorporate HPD-based information in your product selection and specification work, as well as to compile documentation for specifications and certification submittals, streamlining your process and significantly reducing time and effort.

To introduce the advanced user features, HPDC is making them available to all Repository users through September 2018.  Beginning in October, HPDC members will continue to have unlimited access; non-members will be able to continue use of these features for a small monthly fee. If you are not already an HPDC member, please consider supporting our community through your membership – for more information on membership, click here.

ADVANCED USER FEATURES

  • Registered Repository User – this feature will enable you to establish an account in the Repository, allowing you to store your work-in-progress, maintain a history of selected and downloaded HPDs and avoid repeated entry of your email for downloads.  Registering will enable your use of these additional features:
  • Contact Manufacturers – Have a question for a manufacturer?  Want to tell the manufacturer you are using their HPD? Now you can contact the manufacturer directly from the Repository, while viewing their HPD.  The manufacturer will receive your message and be able to correspond directly back to you via your email address.
  • Download Queues – No longer do you need to laboriously download HPDs one-by-one and save to files on your computer!  Now you can maintain project-specific “Download Queues” right in the Repository itself.  Select and edit your project-specific queue over multiple work sessions.  If you need an HPD right away – download it.  If you want to store it for further consideration and later download, create your project-specific queue and save it.  Curate your queues over time and, when you are ready, the Repository will download the HPDs you have selected for a specific project, in a single, convenient zip file.
  • New Features – New features will be added on an ongoing basis.  Please contact us with your suggestions for additional features that will make it easier and more useful to incorporate the data in HPD reports into your work.  To provide a suggestion, or get assistance with the HPD Public Repository, please visit our Support Portal by clicking on this link.

With the HPD Public Repository, it’s easy to obtain the basic transparency document – the HPD. HPDs are uploaded by manufacturers as a PDF, which you can then easily search for by manufacturer, product name, CSI classification or HPD version and other criteria. Make adding the transparency document a routine practice. If you are using an automated library tool, HPDs are also available in mindful MATERIALS, Sustainable Minds, Ecomedes and a growing list of other product libraries and catalogs. Visit with us at the Living Product Expo 2018: Pittsburgh, September 11-13

HPDC will be exhibiting again this year at the Living Product Expo. Kudos to our ecosystem partner and HPDC member, International Living Future Institute, for hosting this annual event that enables our community to focus in on material health and transparency practices! HPDC staff John Geyer, Tristan Roberts and Wendy Vittori will all be attending, and we in addition to our exhibit, we will be participating in a number of workshop and panel presentations, as will many of our HPDC members. We look forward to seeing you in Pittsburgh. For more information visit our website.

Streamlining Chemicals Management Reporting in the Building Industry

Toxnot and HPD Collaborative (HPDC) have partnered to provide a new capability for Toxnot and HPD Builder users: direct export from Toxnot accounts to the HPD Builder.  This collaboration enables building product manufacturers to report against multiple standards in Toxnot and access a full suite of supplier data collection features and then export this data directly to HPD Builder to create or edit their HPD (Health Product Declaration) reports. Additionally, this new capability will soon enable Toxnot users to export their HPD Builder data directly back into Toxnot, to further compare and analyze chemical hazards and alternatives, to help manufacturers in improving their product designs.

HPD Version 2.1.1- Full Implementation Planned for September

Work continues on schedule to launch the Full Implementation of the HPD Builder v2.1.1 in September. Version 2.1.1 continues timely updates to Hazard Screening reporting, and also introduces the first wave of Special Conditions reporting capabilities. For more information on the v2.1.1 release features, and to access the Standard documents, click on this link.
In addition, the Builder User Interface is being significantly enhanced to streamline data entry by manufacturers, and prepare for the implementation of the Builder extension to support the Supplier HPD (v 2.2), in early 2019.
If you are a registered HPD Builder User you will be receiving an update in early September with more detailed information about the v2.1.1 HPD Builder launch. We will also post information on the HPDC website.

Reminder – All HPDs created with Version 1.0 will expire on September 30, 2018

Most of the HPDs created using Version 1.0 of the HPD Open Standard, which was first introduced in 2012, have already passed their Expiry Date.  We want to remind you that the latest Expiry Date for an HPD created using HPD Version 1.0 is September 30, 2018.
  • We encourage all manufacturers to update their Version 1.0 HPDs to the current specification.  If you need to re-establish a current HPD Builder account, please contact us at membership@hpd-collaborative.org and we will be happy to assist you.
  • For project teams, the Expiry Date on an HPD is relevant for several reasons.  Clearly, the information on an HPD past its Expiry Date may no longer be valid.  Also, HPDs must be demonstrate that they were valid (i.e., not past the Expiry Date) when used as project documentation which is submitted for LEED or other program documentation.
If you have any questions regarding creating and using HPDs, we will be happy to help you at support@hpd-collaborative.org.
